Ya San

Ancient folklore warns that the unnatural union between a woman and a ghost produces hideous offspring destined for a life of profound isolation. In modern times, within an impoverished and remote village on the Chinese coast, lives a mysterious young man named Ya San. Discovered abandoned on a beach two decades ago, he shares his community’s dread of a strange affliction that forces its victims to shun sunlight. Plagued by murders, suspicious deaths, incurable illnesses, and unexplained disappearances, the village has resigned itself to a cursed existence. Ya San resolves to break this cycle of despair after his young friend Xiao Hua drowns mysteriously in a local canal. His quest leads him on a perilous investigation into the area’s sole factory, located deep within the Forbidden Zone, where he uncovers unspeakable truths. Blending traditional Chinese legends with environmental themes, fantasy, and science fiction, Ya San is a narrative that delves profoundly into the depths of the human soul.
