Summary
Official Details
Udagawa Gosuke inherits his father’s dojo—not because he was the intended successor, but because his father and elder brother were both forced to commit seppuku. As the second son, the dojo was never meant to come to him. Haunted by the manner of their deaths, he struggles with a profound lack of self-confidence and continues to practice swordsmanship daily at a nearby dojo. When the members of that dojo prove insufferable, however, he resolves to establish a new school and style of his own—one centered purely on the joy of the art. What truly sets this story apart from typical shonen fare is that the male and female leads are already married. His wife, Udagawa Shino, is the younger sister of his senior apprentice, and she is decidedly eccentric. To supplement their income, she crafts rabbit masks, though describing her as merely obsessed with rabbits would be an understatement; she insists that "the rabbits will someday reach the moon." When Gosuke finally founds his new dojo, he names his swordsmanship style "Rabbit Style Fencing."
