Set in the near future, Kidou Ryodan Hachifukujin depicts a Japan that has been subjugated by China and now wages war against its former ally, the United States, under Chinese command. Central to this conflict are the Fukujin—advanced armor suits whose name translates to "luck god"—which prove nearly impervious to conventional weaponry. The narrative follows a group of new recruits in the Japanese army as they struggle to survive in this devastated wartime landscape. Featuring an eccentric girl, a pacifistic young man, and a Fukujin pilot, the story offers a stark exploration of war, violence, and militaristic subservience.
