Summary

In this epic tale, a modern man named Ye Fan travels back in time to the Ming Dynasty, where he finds himself on the verge of execution. As the blade falls, he awakens to the presence of a residual soul, known as the Night God. To survive, Ye Fan must navigate the treacherous landscape of the Ming Dynasty's history, collecting fragments of his divine soul while avoiding the wrath of heaven. His only ally in this perilous journey is Tang Ruoxue, a brilliant emergency physician who has also traveled through time and now inhabits the body of a palace official, Hu Shanjuan. Together, they must confront the challenges of the dynasty's tumultuous history, from the Jingnan Rebellion to Zheng He's maritime expeditions, and the decline of the Yongle era to the Tumubao disaster. As Ye Fan struggles to maintain his humanity amidst the chaos, he is torn between his divine and mortal selves. Ultimately, he makes a choice that will determine the course of his fate, opting to relinquish his divine soul to live a mortal life. In the end, he finds solace in a long and peaceful life with his loved one, spending sixty years together in the mortal realm, surrounded by the beauty of West Lake. Through his journey, Ye Fan comes to understand the true value of human connection and the beauty of a simple, mortal existence.
