The Dead's Unfinished List

Every day, people die in silence across the city—students who leap from rooftops, passersby who drown, migrant workers who vanish without a trace. They do not truly disappear. They linger, trapped in the living world, burdened by tasks left unfinished, words left unspoken, and justice left undelivered. I am the night shift security guard at a residential compound. One rain-soaked evening on duty, I awakened my Yin-Yang eyes. Where others see only terror in the presence of ghosts, I see something else entirely: a floating list of unfinished business hovering above every departed soul. Debts owed but never repaid, truths buried and swallowed, lives that could have been saved, and acts of kindness betrayed and trampled. When I help them clear their lists, the spirits find peace and fade away, while the karmic recoil turns back upon the wicked. Yet if a list remains unsettled, the accumulated resentment poisons the world, and more innocents will inevitably fall. I do not style myself as a celestial master. I take no disciples and pursue no path of immortality. I do only one thing: for those who died wrongfully, I reclaim their due justice in this world.
