Koe no Katachi

Shoya is a bully. When Shoko, a girl who cannot hear, joins his elementary school class, she quickly becomes the class's preferred target. Shoya and his friends push one another to invent new forms of torment for her, and the cruelty among the children escalates until it goes too far. Shoko is ultimately forced to leave the school, while Shoya ends up carrying the entire blame for what happened. Six years later, the two meet again. Their reunion forces Shoya to face the mistakes of his past and to wonder whether he can truly make amends—or whether it is already too late. The question of atonement, guilt, and whether forgiveness can follow such cruelty lies at the heart of their second encounter.
