See You Tomorrow at the Food Court

To their classmates, Wada and Yamamoto exist as polar opposites within the school's rigid social ecosystem. Wada is the picture of quiet elegance—a wealthy heiress whose composed demeanor suggests a life of tea ceremonies and classical music. Yamamoto, by contrast, is the solitary figure who intimidates with a single glance, a lone wolf who seems to navigate the hallways on her own terms. But these carefully constructed public facades shatter the moment the final bell rings, revealing two young women whose private worlds are far more chaotic and colorful than anyone could imagine. Behind her serene mask, Wada wages a passionate, one-sided war with a two-dimensional mobile game character, cycling through fits of adoration and frustration over pixelated dialogue choices. Meanwhile, Yamamoto’s fierce exterior melts away for her true devotion: an obsessive consumption of urban legend content, with her attention fixed entirely on her favorite YouTuber’s every upload. Their classmates remain blissfully unaware of these guilty obsessions, but Wada and Yamamoto share an unspoken understanding. Every afternoon, they converge on the familiar vinyl benches of the local food court, shedding their school identities like heavy backpacks. There, amid the ambient hum of fryers and chatter, they unload their daily grievances, celebrate minor victories in their virtual pursuits, and dissect the quirks of their respective fixations. What begins as a simple outlet for ranting slowly deepens into a genuine ritual of mutual discovery, proving that the truest friendships often bloom in the most unlikely places—over cold sodas and shared secrets that the rest of the world would never believe.
