The woman I married already had a daughter: Tooko, a second-year high school student. When I first learned that my stepdaughter was at that age, I worried about how we would relate, so I was relieved when the two of us got along. I was glad to see that we shared a comfortable connection. Even so, there are times when Tooko seems to come a little too close. Her behavior is not obviously inappropriate, but it carries an intimacy that leaves me uncertain how to respond. As her stepfather, I want to be a reliable presence in her life, yet the subtle closeness between us makes me question where the boundary should lie. The story follows this quiet tension inside a newly formed family, where ordinary affection and unspoken limits begin to blur.
