The Unfettered Coffin

On land steeped in resentment, dark entities thrive. Blood-soaked folk pageants, incense festivals, operas honoring the gods, ritual flower mandalas, and exorcist ceremonies—all conceal a creeping eeriness beneath their sacred veneer. When river waters reversed course to drown and seal away a malevolent god, a new city was erected atop the ruins of the ancient one, its very foundation laid with the skeletal remains and gravel of countless fallen souls. Xu Chan awakens to find that his birth chart has already been sold off, binding him as a living substitute in this world of horrors. By day, he chants scriptures and offers prayers, accumulating merits and blessings for the young master of a wealthy household. But when malevolent spirits strike, he is expected to lay down his life to shield the very one who owns him. On the brink of death, Xu Chan stumbles upon the forbidden inheritance of the Eight Netherworld Methods. Two figures emerge—a man and a woman, one embodying the coffin, the other the corpse. By using the human body as a vessel to nurture a corpse immortal, the path to transcendence lies ahead. One day, he shall shed his mortal shell and rise as an immortal. And I—the coffin—remain utterly free.
