The Dream of the Cuckoos

For four years, Shougo Natsuka has orbited the sun of Hiro Hakushima—his popular, impossibly perfect classmate whose radiant charm and good looks have made him the center of everyone's attention. Consumed by a love he dares not voice, Shougo has buried his feelings deep, choosing instead the safety of friendship over the devastating risk of confession. He knows that a public revelation could shatter Hiro's pristine reputation, and so he watches from the sidelines, nursing an ache that only grows more acute with time. Now in college, the distance between his heart and his actions has only widened. To silence the physical longing he cannot express to Hiro, Shougo turns to Seno, a no-strings-attached partner who is Hiro's polar opposite in every conceivable way. This fragile equilibrium—pining for Hiro by day and seeking release with Seno by night—becomes his new normal, a compromise that numbs the pain of unrequited desire. But the careful walls Shougo has built come crashing down when a freak accident triggers an impossible phenomenon: Seno and Hiro swap bodies. Suddenly, the object of his affection is trapped in the vessel of his casual lover, and Shougo is faced with a bewildering and morally fraught temptation. With Hiro's consciousness residing in Seno's form, the boundaries of intimacy, identity, and consent blur into a dizzying haze. Will this surreal twist grant Shougo the chance to finally touch the boy he has always loved, or will it force him to confront the devastating truth that the body he desires may no longer house the soul he adores?
