Ao no Hako

At Eimei Junior and Senior High—a breeding ground for national-level athletic talent—the gymnasium hums with purpose long before the first bell rings. Among the dedicated few who claim the pre-dawn court is Taiki Inomata, a relentlessly persistent member of the boys’ badminton team. But his early mornings are fueled by more than just shuttlecock drills; they are anchored by the quiet, steadfast presence of Chinatsu Kano, the star player of the girls’ basketball team and the upperclassman who has unknowingly captured his heart. For Taiki, their shared ritual of stretching, sprinting, and practicing in the hushed light of sunrise is the closest he dares to get to her world, a fragile routine he treasures despite the gap in their age and social standings. Yet the comfortable rhythm of spring practice is destined to be disrupted. A sudden, unforeseen development upends the careful distance Taiki has maintained, plunging him into an orbit far closer to Chinatsu than he ever imagined possible. Now, he must navigate the tumultuous intersection of intense athletic ambition and the confusing pull of first love, all while striving to prove his own mettle on the badminton court. As their lives become unexpectedly entangled, Taiki finds that reaching for his dreams—both in sport and in matters of the heart—demands a courage he never knew he possessed.
