It happens in the summer of his first year—a confession he never saw coming. Out of nowhere, Kana pours her heart out to him, and though he cannot begin to make sense of his own feelings, he finds himself saying yes. Just like that, the two of them begin dating. Yet his answer rests on uncertain ground. He agreed to be her boyfriend before he ever understood what he truly felt—about Kana, about love, perhaps even about himself. As the days of their new relationship unfold, he is forced to sit with the one question he cannot answer: does he genuinely care for the girl standing beside him, or did he simply not know how to turn her away? A tender, quietly honest portrait of first love, this story captures the awkwardness of youth—where a relationship can begin before the heart has had the chance to catch up.
