Yowamushi Pedal

Sakamichi Onoda, an avid otaku, enters high school with the hope of joining the anime club. He spent his middle school years without any friends to share his passions for anime, games, and Akihabara, so he is eager to find like-minded companions—only to learn that the club has already been disbanded. Determined to revive it, he sets out to find four other interested members. Since childhood, Onoda has made weekly pilgrimages to Akihabara on his mamachari—a sturdy, step-through bicycle typically reserved for short errands and casual rides—to browse and purchase otaku goods. During one of his training sessions, fellow first-year Shunsuke Imaizumi spots Onoda powering up a steep incline on that very mamachari. Meanwhile, another freshman and road-racing cyclist, Shokichi Naruko, visits Akihabara to buy Gundam plastic models for his younger brothers. There, he crosses paths with Onoda and is immediately struck by his remarkable cycling technique on the bulky city bike; it is only later that Naruko discovers they attend the same school. Both Naruko and Imaizumi soon take it upon themselves to recruit Onoda for the bicycle racing club—but will he accept their offer?
