I’m Not a Soccer Genius!

On the sun-drenched pitches of Italy's prestigious soccer league, Jian occupies the loneliest seat in the stadium: the bench. Far from the roaring crowds and the glory of goal-scoring, he spends his days watching from the sidelines, a fringe player in a world of stars. Yet when his childhood friend re-enters his life, carrying memories of the prodigy he once promised to become, Jian finds himself trapped in a desperate charade. To preserve her belief in him, he must reinvent himself as a celebrated athlete, a lie that feels one inevitable loss away from shattering. Desperate for credibility, Jian knows that a single, lucky goal—or perhaps two—could momentarily dazzle his friend and buy him the time he needs. But maintaining the illusion of stardom while sitting on the bench is a grueling performance, forcing him to dodge interviews, fabricate accolades, and live in constant fear of exposure. However, as the pressure mounts and the stakes climb higher, a subtle truth begins to surface. Behind his mediocre track record and borrowed confidence lies a natural instinct for the game that he himself has never fully recognized. As the season hurtles toward its climax, Jian must confront the possibility that his greatest deception might not be pretending to be a genius, but rather, failing to accept that he actually is one.
