Dampier no Oishii Bouken

In the seventeenth century, the English government authorized privately owned ships to prey upon Spanish vessels, sending bold privateers out across the open sea. Aboard one of these sanctioned vessels sails William Dampier, a learned and endlessly curious explorer whose thirst for discovery runs far deeper than any desire for plunder. While his fellow crewmen chase treasure, Dampier finds his true riches in the unknown itself. Every distant shore offers the promise of unfamiliar animals, strange plants, and foods no European has ever encountered — wonders that thrill him far more than captured cargo. What begins as an authorized voyage of piracy against Spain becomes, for this inquisitive seafarer, a grand adventure of knowledge and taste, as he embraces the marvels of a world still waiting to be explored.
