Pale Bones and Blossoms

In a world teetering on the fragile edge of coexistence, humans and vampires share a landscape riddled with fear and mistrust. Caught in this precarious balance is Jess, a starving vampire whose luck runs out when he is captured and thrown into the depths of a brutal slave camp. There, the merciless warden, Philip, subjects him to relentless torture—not for information or sport, but in a desperate bid to harvest a cure for his own mortal affliction. Yet Jess proves to be a tragic anomaly among his kind; his blood offers no miraculous healing, leaving him a broken, worthless asset in the eyes of his tormentor. With his last hope dwindling, Philip forces a former physician, now reduced to a lowly slave named Johan, into the vampire's underground cell. Charged with nursing Jess back to stability, Johan reluctantly begins the arduous task of mending the creature's shattered body. But as days bleed into nights, the doctor finds himself unexpectedly captivated by the vampire's quiet resilience and haunting presence—a dangerous attraction that threatens to unravel his last defenses. Sensing Johan's growing devotion, Jess seizes upon the emotion as a tool, crafting an elaborate performance of reciprocated affection to secure his ally and orchestrate a daring escape. Yet if the two manage to shatter their chains and flee the camp's suffocating darkness, a far more daunting question lingers: can either of them ever truly return to the lives they once knew, or has the abyss of their suffering permanently altered the very fabric of who they are?
