Kimi to Mitai Race ga Aru

The arithmetic is simple yet audacious: split the eighty-thousand-yen rent down the middle, and each month, forty thousand yen slips free from the grasp of living expenses—funds earmarked not for savings or groceries, but for the racetrack. This is the proposition that brings Ai and Ena, two university students with little in common besides a shared infatuation with thoroughbreds, under one roof as roommates. Their days settle into a rhythm of simulcast races flickering across the screen, the click of online betting slips, and spirited, late-night dissections of form guides and finishing times. Yet for all their synergy in the betting ring, the domestic sphere is a different hurdle. One is orderly, the other chaotic; one speaks with measured logic, the other with impulsive fervor. Beneath the surface of their shared hobby, an unspoken question lingers: can two souls wired so differently truly coexist outside the thrill of the final stretch? As they navigate the mundane realities of shared living—whose turn it is to clean, who left the milk out—alongside the adrenaline of a photo finish, the true stakes of their arrangement become clear. This is not merely a story about horse racing; it is a delicate balancing act between financial pragmatism, competitive passion, and the fragile, tentative bond of two strangers betting on more than just horses—they are betting on each other.
