Boy's Abyss

In a sleepy, backwater town where the days bleed together without meaning or momentum, Reiji endures a life defined by quiet desperation. The narrow streets and stagnant river that slice through the community are constant, oppressive reminders of a future that offers no escape and no prospects. Each monotonous morning blurs into the next, and for Reiji, existence has become a suffocating endurance test—a daily struggle against an atmosphere that seems engineered to drain away any flicker of ambition or hope. The town holds no distinction beyond a single, macabre footnote: a notorious double suicide that unfolded along the riverbank years ago. That tragic event has since calcified into local legend, a grim cautionary tale that haunts the collective memory and casts a long shadow over every resident's psyche. As Reiji navigates the weight of his circumstances—strained family ties, the crushing inertia of his environment, and the subtle, insidious pull of despair—he finds himself increasingly fixated on that same stretch of water. The central question gnaws at him relentlessly: does he truly possess any agency over his own path, or is he merely drifting toward an inevitable end, fated to mirror the very tragedy that defines his hometown? The abyss is patient, and its call grows harder to ignore with each passing day.
