Happiness Rides a Broomstick

For Kim Danjo, life as a college freshman is defined not by the thrill of new beginnings, but by a quiet, colorless routine that mirrors the meaning of her name. Her days blur together in the cramped confines of her humble *gosiwon*, a small, box-like room where every meal is eaten alone and every evening feels just like the last. It is a monotonous existence, devoid of magic or surprise—until the day a simple errand for her senior leads her to a dusty campus storage room. There, in the dim light, she witnesses something impossible: a forgotten broom shimmers, warps, and transforms into a girl standing before her. The broom-turned-girl is desperate, insisting she is a *Dookkabei*—a Korean supernatural being—and that she has no place left to go. With nowhere else to turn, she latches onto Danjo with relentless persistence, pleading for shelter and aid. Overwhelmed by the creature's earnestness and the sheer absurdity of her situation, Danjo finds herself yielding against her better judgment. In a moment of impulsive charity, she bestows the name Eundohae upon the magical being, accidentally forging a bond that will turn her orderly life upside down. Now, Danjo must navigate the chaotic reality of sharing her already cramped *gosiwon* with a supernatural roommate—a decision that promises to shatter her quiet solitude and sweep her into an unforeseen new world.
