Miss Wanna-Lose-Weight and Miss Heartbroken

Miss Wanna-Lose-Weight and Miss Heartbroken is a three-volume anthology of standalone one-shots (2018–2020) boasting an all-star lineup of creators — Hayashiya Shizuru, Dowman Sayman, Fujichika Koume, Dr. pepperco, Yukio Yuki, Ohkita Mahiro, Emoto Haru, and many more — bound together by cover art from Kawai Makoto. It takes its name from its flagship story, the tale of a girl determined to slim down and a young woman still nursing a fresh broken heart, setting the tone for a collection devoted to the small heartaches and quiet hopes shared between girls. Across more than forty chapters, the anthology ranges freely in tone and subject: a bubbly gyaru finds herself solemnly proposed to by the plainest girl in her class; a "friendship committee" meddles in matters of the heart; a real-life VTuber blurs the line between screen and reality; a mangaka navigates her day-to-day with her editor; and confessions arrive everywhere from Friday nights to a deathbed. Elsewhere, tears are shed for a goldfish, a doppelgänger offers a tender deception, skinship goes a little too far, and friends discover just how close — and yet how far apart — they truly are. Comic, bittersweet, and quietly romantic, often with a girls'-love flavor, every story stands entirely on its own yet shares a single thread: girls standing at the edge of change, learning to let go, to reach out, and to love.
