Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma

Soma Yukihira has spent his entire childhood behind the stove of his father's modest diner, a gritty neighborhood fixture where the menu is rough, the customers are tougher, and the kitchen never cools. With dreams of surpassing his old man's formidable skill, Soma treats every service like a battlefield, experimenting relentlessly and learning to turn cheap ingredients into culinary gold. Life is a simple, sweaty grind of lunch rushes and late-night cleanups—until his father abruptly pulls the rug out from under him, shuttering the restaurant and enrolling Soma in an elite culinary academy where tuition alone costs more than their annual earnings. The Totsuki Culinary Academy is a fortress of gastronomic excellence, notorious for graduating only ten percent of its entering class and subjecting students to grueling practical exams that have broken far more talented chefs than Soma. Here, plating is poetry, ingredients are imported from the ends of the earth, and failure means expulsion without ceremony. Almost immediately, Soma finds himself in the crosshairs of the school's icy, revered heiress—a prodigy whose impeccable palate and iron will have made her the undisputed queen of the campus. She scoffs at his commoner roots and dismisses his cooking as crude noise, but Soma refuses to bow. With nothing but his wits, his relentless work ethic, and a lifetime of line-cook grit, he sets out to prove that genius isn't born in a ivory tower—it's forged in the flames of a humble kitchen, one defiant dish at a time.
