H.P. Lovecraft's The Colour Out of Space

In this haunting tale, an unnamed narrator reconstructs the events surrounding a desolate stretch of land known to the locals as the "blasted heath," situated in the untamed hills west of Arkham, Massachusetts. As the narrator investigates, he learns that a meteorite struck the area many years prior, unleashing a corrupting influence upon all life nearby. The vegetation, though unnaturally large, yields only bitter and inedible fruit; wildlife succumbs to madness and mutates into horrifying deformities; and the human inhabitants gradually lose their sanity and perish, one after another.
