Seibetsu "Mona Lisa" no Kimi e.

In a world where identity is decided by the heart's deepest desire, the threshold of adolescence brings a profound metamorphosis. At twelve, children begin to feel their bodies gently shifting toward the gender they truly wish to become, and by fourteen, that transformation is complete, their outer selves finally mirroring the souls within. It is an immutable law of nature, a graceful passage into adulthood that everyone experiences—everyone, that is, except one. As spring arrives and he turns eighteen, the protagonist remains suspended in a quiet, unnerving limbo, his form refusing to choose a path. While his peers have long since settled into their chosen selves, he drifts through his final years of youth bearing neither mark of masculinity nor femininity—a living anomaly in a society built on binary certainties. This inexplicable stasis isolates him from the normal rhythms of friendship and romance, casting his daily existence in a haunting solitude. Haunted by the unanswered question of why his body refuses to change, he must navigate the bittersweet twilight of his school days, grappling with the crushing weight of an uncertain future. As classmates forge ahead with their lives, he remains tethered to a childhood that will not release him, desperately seeking the reason behind his condition and wondering if he will ever be granted the simple right to become someone—or if he is destined to remain a blank canvas, a Mona Lisa forever without a portrait.
