To be forgotten is a fate worse than death. Countless ages have passed since the mysterious Beasts annihilated humankind, leaving Willem as the last of his kind, newly awakened from a long slumber. Though a thriving civilization of diverse races now inhabits the floating islands above the ruins, there is no room for an unremarkable human among them. After drifting through existence without purpose, Willem reluctantly takes on a post with the military—only to learn that the "weapons" entrusted to his care are, in truth, young faeries. As he grows closer to the children and uncovers the surprising threads connecting them to his own forgotten era, the conflict against the Beasts spirals toward catastrophe.
