Akira's three-year savings finally seem worth it when a coveted computer model, the 9821, goes on sale. However, his excitement is short-lived as the model sells out in just five minutes. Disheartened, Akira's fortunes take an unexpected turn when he stumbles upon a mysterious individual in an alley who happens to possess the very computer he had been seeking. Overjoyed, Akira purchases the computer, only to discover upon arriving home that he has actually acquired a highly advanced, biomechanical computer girl named Mimi, model 2198, rather than the 9821 he had originally desired.
