Anesthesiologist Hana

Among the myriad fractures threatening to shatter modern healthcare, none cuts deeper than the acute shortage of anesthesiologists—the unsung guardians of the operating room. At the heart of this silent crisis stands Hanaoka Hanako, a dedicated physician navigating the relentless corridors of a university hospital. Her days are a precarious balancing act: monitoring vital signs as patients drift between consciousness and oblivion, while the system around her creaks under the weight of understaffing and exhaustion. Yet, for all the clinical gravity of her work, Hanako’s world is rarely a sterile drama; it is a messy, human tapestry woven with moments of dark absurdity and unexpected levity. Behind the beeping monitors and sterile drapes lies a grittier reality. Hanako endures the punishing triad of backbreaking shifts, meager compensation that mocks her decade of training, and the casual sting of workplace harassment that too often goes unchecked in the hierarchical hospital culture. Whether she is wrestling with a surgeon’s inflated ego, soothing a terrified patient on the table, or simply trying to grab a meal that isn't interrupted by an emergency page, her resilience is tested at every turn. But when the call comes—the urgent intubation, the crashing blood pressure, the critical care consult—Hanako answers without hesitation. With steady hands and a sharp eye, she steps into the fray each morning, ready to trade the chaos of the ward for the quiet, controlled precision of the anesthesia machine, proving that even in a crumbling system, one determined woman can make all the difference.
