The Blood Coffin's Seal

Chen Yuan returns to his hometown to bury his grandfather, carrying only a single dying instruction: "Don't open the coffin. Don't let it see the light. And on the seventh night—whatever you do—never light a lamp." But the grave soil collapses without warning, leaving the coffin exposed, and curious villagers pry open its lid. Inside lies a corpse untouched by decay, its fingernails grown three inches long, its burial shroud so red it seems about to drip blood. That very night, the dead grandfather returns to the ancestral house without a sound, dressed in that blood-red garb, his eyes pitch black—searching only for his own blood kin. Ink-line wards, rooster's blood, glutinous rice... the protections he left behind can drive the thing back only for so long. To survive, Chen Yuan must uncover the secret his grandfather guarded with his life and re-seal the thousand-year corpse-nurturing coffin before the midnight hour of the seventh night. But when he finally stands before the bronze coffin in the cellar, he discovers a truth far more terrifying than anything he could have imagined: his grandfather refined his own body into the final talisman—and Chen Yuan himself is the last sacrifice in the blood corpse's resurrection ritual.
