Those infected by the maka's sprout are bound to a tragic and inescapable fate. Once the seed takes root within a human host, they are compelled to nourish the parasitic flower with their own life force until it finally blooms, an event that inevitably claims their life. The maka themselves are humanoid demons, each carrying a sprout of their own, who spread this lethal curse wherever they roam. Driven by a relentless sense of duty, Satsuki dedicates herself to hunting down these demonic entities, pursuing them across the land to halt the cycle of death they perpetuate. Her tireless campaign against the maka eventually leads her face-to-face with a uniquely powerful demon known only as Blue Rose. Rather than responding with hostility or fleeing like the others, this enigmatic figure greets Satsuki with unexpected reverence, addressing her directly as a "Hero." This startling encounter disrupts everything Satsuki understands about her mission and her enemies. Confronted by a demon who recognizes her not merely as a hunter but as a destined savior, she is forced to question the true nature of the maka, the purpose of the deadly sprouts, and her own role in the unfolding tragedy.
