Rurouni Kenshin: Master of Flame

Released to celebrate the premiere of the two-part live-action film about the battle in Kyoto, Rurouni Kenshin: Master of Flame is a manga special by Watsuki Nobuhiro. It focuses on the fateful meeting between Shishio Makoto and Yumi Komagata, his significant other, and explores the bond that places her at his side. The story also details how Shishio formed the Juppongatana, the organization of warriors and assassins he recruits in the original Rurouni Kenshin manga as part of his attempt to overthrow the Japanese government. The release further includes Kurosaki Kaoru’s Sono Kage, Hanaregataku Tsunagitomeru Mono. Together, the chapters expand on the Kyoto conflict era and the forces surrounding Shishio’s rise, offering background to the battles and loyalties that shape the original manga’s Kyoto arc.
