Lifelong companions Tokio and Azuma are practically inseparable, sharing nearly every experience together. However, their dynamic has always been somewhat unbalanced. While Azuma is naturally gifted and effortlessly cool, Tokio often feels like he is merely trailing behind in his friend's shadow, struggling to find his own footing. That familiar routine shatters completely one night when the two boys are suddenly ambushed by a dangerous mutant known as a choujin. In the heat of the attack, Tokio unexpectedly discovers a latent potential within himself, undergoing a startling transformation into a superhuman entity just like their assailant. For the first time, he possesses the power to step out of Azuma’s shadow and take control of his own destiny. Yet, this sudden evolution proves far more complicated than any fantasy of heroism. The reality of becoming a choujin brings an overwhelming burden rather than simple liberation. Now forced to navigate a double life, Tokio must conceal his terrifying new nature from his unsuspecting family while carefully avoiding disciplinary action for truancy at school. As if managing these personal secrets were not difficult enough, a series of increasingly bizarre and unsettling incidents begins sweeping through their town, dragging him deeper into a world he barely understands.
