Suikoden

Suikoden is a manga adaptation of Water Margin, one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature. The narrative centers on a formidable band of 108 outlaws who navigate the treacherous political and social labyrinth of ancient China. Despite their status as fugitives, these warriors are ultimately offered amnesty by the state, provided they unite to form an army tasked with repelling foreign invaders and suppressing internal rebel factions. As their journey unfolds, the group must contend not only with external enemies but also with the deeply entrenched apathy and conservatism of the ruling government. Their adventure exposes a corrupt system that shows little regard for genuine courage or valor. Forced to operate within a society that undervalues true bravery, the outlaws find themselves constantly at odds with the very authorities they have been enlisted to serve, transforming their quest for redemption into a profound struggle against systemic indifference.
