Originally serialized from 1979 to 1986 across thirty-six volumes, the manga earned widespread acclaim, including the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award for the shonen category in 1985. The story directly resumed in 2011 with volume thirty-seven, which reset the chapter numbering to one for its subsequent run.
