Ikoku Nikki

Thirty-five-year-old novelist Makio Koudai has always preferred solitude, but her quiet existence is abruptly upended when tragedy strikes her family. Following the sudden deaths of her older sister and brother-in-law, Makio acts on a fleeting impulse and takes in her fifteen-year-old niece, Asa.
