Kappa no Kaikata

On his way home one day, a young man impulsively purchases a kappa from a pet shop window and names the creature Kaatan. With no prior experience raising such a mythical being, he turns to a specialized guidebook for instruction on proper care and training. The manual offers comprehensive advice for cultivating an intelligent and obedient companion, presenting the process as straightforward and manageable. Confident in these written guidelines, the new owner begins his journey into unconventional pet ownership with high expectations and a structured plan based entirely on the book’s seemingly simple methodology. Reality quickly proves far more complicated than the literature suggests, as Kaatan consistently fails to meet training milestones despite initial signs of comprehension. The kappa either forgets lessons shortly after learning them or displays a complete lack of interest in cooperating with his owner’s efforts. Undeterred by these repeated setbacks and the growing gap between theory and practice, the patient young man persists in his dedication. He continues striving to raise Kaatan into a well-behaved pet he can be proud of, even as success remains elusive and the challenge tests the limits of his resolve.
