The Shadow Out of Time

Nathaniel Wingate Peaslee was once a grounded and respected professor of political economy at Miskatonic University in Arkham. A man of rational temperament, he had no interest whatsoever in the occult. However, his life fractured irrevocably in 1908 when, mid-lecture, the familiar walls of his classroom warped into an impossible, alien landscape before he collapsed into unconsciousness. The man who eventually opened his eyes wore Peaslee’s face, but harbored a profoundly different mind. Over the next five years, this altered professor began associating with unsettling company and speaking in bizarre terms about time, distant realms, and unfathomable concepts of existence. His erratic research and sudden travels deeply disturbed everyone close to him, including his colleagues, his wife, and his children. Then, as abruptly as the change occurred, Peaslee’s original consciousness returned in 1913, leaving him with absolutely no memory of the intervening period. Desperate to understand what happened during those five lost years, Peaslee embarks on a relentless global investigation. His search for the truth pulls both him and the reader into a harrowing journey that ultimately leads to a remote destination where an ancient, vanished civilization still casts its lingering shadow out of time.
