Young Black Jack

Serving as a prequel to the legendary works of manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka, this series reimagines the origins of his most iconic maverick physician. Set against the turbulent backdrop of the 1960s, the narrative focuses on Black Jack during his formative years as a medical student, long before he became the unlicensed surgical genius known to the world. This historical setting provides a rich canvas for exploring the social and ethical challenges that shaped his unconventional philosophy toward medicine and humanity. Rather than depicting a fully formed antihero, the story delves into the personal and professional dilemmas faced by a young doctor-in-training navigating a rigid medical establishment. It examines the pivotal experiences and moral conflicts that forged his distinctive identity, offering readers a deeper understanding of the man behind the legend. By grounding the character in a specific era of Japanese history, the series expands upon Tezuka’s original creation while maintaining strict fidelity to the core essence of the brilliant, rebellious surgeon who would eventually defy all convention.
