Buddhist Priest & A Spider

The Buddhist priest Sogen journeys through the world accompanied by Kinki, a spider spirit with whom he shares a profound and intimate bond. Their relationship extends beyond mere companionship into deep physical passion, yet it is rooted in something far more significant than desire alone. Unlike many who fear supernatural beings, Sogen has long regarded spirits and demons as less threatening than the inherent cruelty of humanity. This perspective has allowed him to embrace Kinki without hesitation, finding solace and genuine connection in the presence of a creature others would shun. As their travels continue, Sogen’s affection for the faithful spider spirit blossoms into authentic love, unburdened by prejudice or doubt. However, this devotion brings with it an inevitable sorrow tied to his own mortality. He finds himself increasingly preoccupied with thoughts of Kinki’s future after his passing, wondering what fate awaits a spirit so deeply intertwined with a human life that must eventually end. This quiet anguish underscores the tenderness of their unconventional bond, framing their story not merely as a tale of forbidden intimacy but as a meditation on impermanence, loyalty, and the enduring nature of love across the boundary between human and spirit.
