Momiji no Kisetsu

Momiji Kuramichi possesses an unwavering passion for shogi, yet he is painfully aware that he lacks the natural aptitude required to excel at the game. This deficiency is particularly agonizing because his older brother was a legendary figure in the shogi world, casting a long and imposing shadow over Momiji’s own aspirations. Despite his intense dedication and love for the board, he remains unable to match the brilliance of his sibling, leaving him trapped in a cycle of inadequacy and self-doubt as he struggles to carve out his own identity separate from his family’s celebrated legacy. In response to this overwhelming frustration, Momiji has developed a peculiar and physical coping mechanism: head-butting objects whenever his emotions boil over. However, this impulsive habit offers no strategic advantage on the shogi board, where intellect and skill reign supreme over brute force. As he continues to grapple with his limitations, Momiji faces the daunting question of whether he can ever transcend his brother’s memory or if he is destined to remain forever eclipsed by a legend he can never hope to equal.
