When thirty-seven-year-old Tooru Sugamo unexpectedly comes into possession of a magical lamp, he is granted a single wish. Rather than asking for wealth or conventional success, he chooses to resurrect a long-forgotten childhood dream. He wishes to be endowed with every fantastical power he once dreamed up during his youth as an aspiring novelist, hoping to finally experience the magic he imagined so many years ago. However, the reality of his wish quickly proves far more complicated than he anticipated. The extraordinary abilities now at his disposal were conceived by an eighth grader, meaning they are entirely unoriginal and wildly impractical. Instead of ushering in an era of heroic adventure, these juvenile powers begin wreaking unpredictable havoc on his everyday routine. Tooru soon discovers that navigating adult responsibilities while burdened with a middle schooler’s overactive imagination is a recipe for disaster. Most notably, his newly acquired abilities threaten to disrupt the stability of his married life. As the absurd consequences of his wish unfold, he must find a way to manage these ridiculous powers before they completely unravel the quiet, ordinary existence he has built as an adult.
