My Neighbor Seki

Toshinari Seki has elevated the art of classroom distraction to an extraordinary level of craftsmanship. Rather than paying attention during lessons, he dedicates his time to constructing elaborate miniature worlds and intricate games directly on and around his school desk. These creative endeavors are executed with such precision and imagination that they form self-contained universes of wonder, often remaining completely unnoticed by the majority of his classmates who remain focused on their studies. Unfortunately for Rumi Yokoi, who sits adjacent to him in their homeroom, Seki’s clandestine projects are far too captivating to disregard. Despite her best efforts to concentrate on academics, she finds herself repeatedly drawn into the mesmerizing spectacle unfolding beside her. His ever-changing dioramas and playful inventions consistently hijack her attention, creating a persistent conflict between her scholastic responsibilities and the irresistible allure of his creativity. As a result, her grades inevitably suffer, transforming her seatmate’s harmless pastimes into a source of personal academic frustration that she cannot escape.
