A Distant Neighborhood

Most people have wondered what they might change if given the chance to revisit their past. Would correcting old mistakes truly improve life for themselves and those they love, or would altering history only lead to unforeseen consequences? For middle-aged Hiroshi Nakahara, this lingering question transforms from idle daydream into startling reality. Returning from a routine business trip, Hiroshi accidentally boards the wrong train and finds himself traveling back to his childhood hometown. Drawn by an inexplicable pull, he visits his mother’s grave, where he is suddenly thrust backward through time. Hiroshi awakens in the body of his fourteen-year-old self, entering his second year of middle school with every adult memory and hard-earned insight perfectly intact. As he attempts to navigate the surreal complexities of his situation, he realizes that his recollections of the past are subtly shifting around him. Armed with foreknowledge of the tragedies and triumphs yet to come, he faces agonizing dilemmas. Can he prevent his father from mysteriously abandoning the family without explanation? If he rewrites his history, will he still cross paths with the woman destined to become his wife? Every choice carries the weight of erasing the life he once knew, forcing Hiroshi to confront whether changing the past is a gift or a devastating burden.
