Kogarashi Monjirou

Adapted from the acclaimed novels by Saho Sasazawa, Kogarashi Monjirou follows the turbulent journey of a skilled professional gambler navigating the perilous landscape of Edo-era Japan. Monjirou wanders from town to town, relying on his sharp instincts and mastery of chance to survive in a harsh, unforgiving world. His nomadic existence is abruptly shattered when he is falsely accused of a crime actually committed by a close companion. Stripped of his freedom and condemned for a sin he did not commit, Monjirou is sentenced to exile on the remote and desolate Hachijou Island. Separated from the mainland and burdened by an unjust punishment, the disgraced gambler faces a bleak future defined by isolation and betrayal. The weight of his wrongful conviction threatens to consume him entirely as he endures the hardships of banishment far from everything he once knew. However, the course of his tragic fate takes an unexpected turn when his friend finally breaks a prolonged silence. Stepping forward to publicly protest Monjirou's innocence, this long-overdue confession sets a dramatic chain of events into motion, fundamentally altering the exiled wanderer's destiny and igniting a new chapter in his relentless struggle for redemption.
