Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem

In 1912, a determined young woman seeks out the elderly Nagakura Shinpachi with a singular purpose: to uncover the unvarnished truth behind the legendary figure known as the Demon of the Shinsengumi. She is driven to hear the authentic account of Vice Commander Hijikata Toshizou, hoping to pierce through the myths that have surrounded his fearsome reputation. Compelled by her resolve, the aging warrior begins to recount a history long buried in time. The narrative shifts back to 1859, introducing a younger Hijikata as a volatile and fiercely ambitious man. He spends his days peddling his family’s traditional medicine while relentlessly sharpening his swordsmanship. Driven by an insatiable desire to test his blade against formidable opponents, he embarks on a restless search for worthy adversaries. This relentless pursuit gradually draws him into the orbit of those who will one day stand beside him as comrades within the Shinsengumi. Among these early encounters, none leaves a more profound mark than his meeting with Kondo Isami. The brash young swordsman is forced to confront his own limits when Kondo proves himself a superior fighter, igniting a rivalry and respect that will shape the violent era ahead.
