The Story of Saiunkoku

In the world of Saiunkoku, eight provinces or houses, each named after a different color, are unified under the rule of Emperor Shi Ryuuki, a ruler infamous for his lack of interest in state affairs and his openly promiscuous lifestyle. Shuurei, a young woman from the prominent Kou family, accepts a position as the Emperor's concubine with the goal of reforming his behavior and guiding him towards effective leadership. Accompanied by Seiran, a mysterious young man adopted by her father, Shuurei enters the imperial palace with the intention of serving the Emperor while also pursuing her own ambitions to become a court official.
