Wolfsmund

Set against the rugged backdrop of the European Alps in the early fourteenth century, Wolfsmund follows the grim realities of travel through one of the continent’s most treacherous mountain routes. At the heart of the narrative lies a formidable fortress checkpoint known as Wolfsmund—translated as "the Mouth of the Wolf"—which guards the St. Gotthard Pass leading into Italy. This imposing way station serves as an unavoidable bottleneck for anyone attempting to cross the mountains, transforming what should be a simple journey into a perilous ordeal. Overseeing this critical passage is a merciless gatekeeper whose sole duty is to scrutinize every soul seeking entry. Travelers from vastly different backgrounds and walks of life arrive at the fortress hoping to continue their journeys southward, yet none are permitted to pass without first enduring his relentless interrogation. The gatekeeper’s methods are unforgiving, and his judgment carries absolute authority over who may proceed and who will be turned away. For those brave or desperate enough to attempt the crossing, the encounter at the checkpoint rarely concludes favorably. Suspicion hangs heavy in the alpine air, and the gatekeeper’s watchful eye ensures that the Mouth of the Wolf lives up to its fearsome reputation, swallowing the hopes of countless wanderers who dare to approach its gates.
