Otogi - Tales of Humans and Demons

"Otogi - Tales of Humans and Demons" is a captivating manga anthology that weaves together a diverse collection of short stories exploring the mystical intersections between the human world and the realm of spirits. The volume features several distinct tales, including "Aoki Kaze no Uta" (Song of the Blue Wind), "Kaitei made" (To the Bottom of the Sea), "Tsubamemaru," and "Ryuu no Hiyaku" (The Dragon's Secret Medicine). Each narrative delves into unique folklore-inspired themes, offering readers a rich tapestry of encounters where mortals and supernatural beings cross paths in unexpected ways. Among the most charming entries is "Kitsune no Udon," which follows a heartwarming encounter between a fox spirit operating a humble udon stall and a human tofu vendor. When the man sincerely compliments the delicious taste of the noodles, the overjoyed kitsune becomes so ecstatic that the tail he had been carefully concealing suddenly pops out, revealing his true nature in a moment of pure delight. The collection concludes with "Otogi: Chimikko Omake Manga," a lighthearted bonus comic featuring chibi-style renditions of the characters. Together, these stories create an enchanting reading experience that celebrates traditional Japanese mythological motifs through both poignant and comedic lenses.
