Corpse Princess

Reanimated corpses known as Shikabane roam the world, posing a relentless threat to the living. To counter this supernatural menace, the Kougon Sect—a specialized branch of the Grand Marshal School within Shingon Esoteric Buddhism—has developed a formidable method of defense. They deploy Corpse Princesses, elite undead hunters who are typically young women resurrected for a singular purpose. Serving as humanity’s primary shield against the darkness lurking in the shadows, these warriors possess the strength necessary to destroy the Shikabane that plague the earth. However, their existence introduces a profound moral dilemma. The very protectors tasked with safeguarding humanity are themselves reanimated corpses, raising unsettling questions about whether the people they defend can ever truly accept them. This paradox lies at the heart of the conflict, as society must weigh its fear of the dead against its desperate need for salvation. Among these unlikely guardians is Makina, a specific Corpse Princess whose journey may ultimately determine if humanity can learn to tolerate the undead defenders standing between them and total annihilation.
