Sumika no Sumika

Sumika is a high school girl living in a quiet, rural town where she harbors a deeply unsettling secret. Despite fully understanding the gravity of her actions, she maintains a compulsive routine of slipping into other people's houses when they are unoccupied. This trespassing is not driven by malice or theft, but rather by a tangled psychological compulsion that she finds entirely impossible to resist. She knows she is crossing boundaries, yet the urge to step inside the private spaces of others remains an inescapable part of her daily life. The roots of this troubling behavior trace back to the strained relationship she shares with her mother, who rigidly enforces a minimalist lifestyle within their own household. Stripped of personal comforts and surrounded by an environment devoid of warmth or individuality, Sumika seeks refuge in the lived-in spaces of strangers. Her intrusions become a desperate attempt to experience the sense of home and belonging that she is denied under her own roof. Ultimately, the story unfolds as a profound human drama exploring the intimate connection between the houses we inhabit and the emotional lives of the people who dwell within them.
