Ganbare Genki

Five-year-old Horiguchi Genki has known hardship since the day he was born, losing his mother at birth and being raised solely by his father. His father, Shark Horiguchi, once competed as a professional boxer before falling from grace and resorting to life as an itinerant fighter. Despite his father's diminished circumstances, young Genki idolizes him completely. He firmly believes that his father possesses the strength of a true champion and dreams of one day following in his footsteps to become a formidable boxer himself. Tragedy strikes when Shark passes away, leaving Genki orphaned and forcing him into the care of his grandparents. Although they take him in, his new guardians are strictly opposed to the sport that defined his father’s turbulent life, forbidding him from ever stepping into the ring. Unwilling to abandon his deeply held dream, Genki resolves to pursue boxing regardless of their objections. He begins training in secret, quietly honing his skills and drawing inspiration from the various people he encounters along the way, determined to forge his own path toward greatness.
