Ichigeki

Set against the volatile backdrop of 1868, Ichigeki is a historical martial arts manga that chronicles the dramatic transformation of a humble peasant who rises to become a samurai. As the centuries-old Edo Period enters its final, chaotic year, Japan stands on the precipice of irreversible change. The rigid social hierarchies that once defined the nation are fracturing, and the old world order is rapidly collapsing under the weight of political upheaval and armed conflict. Caught in the center of this era-defining turmoil, the protagonist must navigate a treacherous landscape where loyalty, survival, and honor are constantly tested. Thrust into a life of combat and duty far removed from his agrarian origins, he relies on his martial prowess to endure the violent clashes that mark the twilight of the shogunate. His journey from an ordinary commoner to a warrior embodies the profound struggles of those swept up in one of Japan’s most turbulent historical transitions, forging a gripping tale of resilience amid the ashes of a dying era.
